Racelogic's performance box review

Paying for transponders for $20-40 a pop every track day can add up. Here is a great and affordable alternative that can do the timing and much much more. I had a chance to get this product and try it out a few track days. The Performance box is made my racelogic who are also the creators of the very famous V box system.

The P Box can do lap timing, acceleration tests ie 0-60, 0-100, 60-130 and 1/4 mile times. Also gives you complete data logging features such as mph, lap times, acceleration and braking G, latitude G etc. I tried to use the data log feature and study the overlaying feature which allows you to overlay different laps on top of each other to compare the data. I also compared lap times from the Pbox to the transponders borrowed from the track. The times were very accurate with a variance of anywhere from .1 to .01 seconds.

It is very easy to use, compact and affordable at around $500.00

Great product and a must have to any serious tracking enthusiast.

This Weekend in FAIL

... so i tried making a water hose tube that i didnt need and ended up gashin myself doin it. it left a pretty cool gears of war sorta look on my catalytic, of which i destroyed a bolt trying to strip it from the flange. it now needs some welding action for me to stay in a reasonable budget. some hoses i bought at the zone didnt quite work, so i ended up getting one of those flexy guys, works well enough i suppose. and last but not least, i strategically installed the downpipe with the long block to make life easier. turns out i needed the older pipe with the hole for the o2 sensor; i effectively strategically made more work for myself :( i'm close though, just a little soldering action to extend some wires and figuring out how to bolt the clutch stuff back in place and it should be ready to go!

acid trip

for those of you guys lookin for lsd's. i found this great article in a grassroots mag a few years back. they tested out the stock torsen, a kaaz i believe, and the osGiken on an s2k to see the differences between performance and value for limited slips. should be a good read for you guys out there who are thinking about spending the extra cash for the osGiken.

New to me Motor.

she's finally in there. just needs a little soldering action, some welded fittings from the fabiano, and a bunch of other annoying parts and hopefully she roars back to life!

Tryin' to make this car go.

so here she is... sittin there all empty insides. been spending every weekend for the last couple months prepping a 1.8 from a '94 to drop in my '92 after blowing out the clutch in aprilish. It's been a long time comin, but its movin' along. hope to have this sucker running in august ready for some auto-x, complete with a torsen lsd, new clutch, stiffer mounts, properly rerouted coolant sys, and no leaks!

more traction for the miata

yay! my first post :)
so i finally sourced a limited slip differential for the miata. this one is a torsen type LSD with 4.10:1 gears pulled from a 96 with somewhere close to 130k miles on it. i've read a lot of positive things about these mechanical LSD as opposed to the expensive clutch type LSDs and am looking forward to seeing how the miata handles with it on the track. gonna try to get her under the car sometime before next saturday's streets of willow event (hah... we'll see if that actually happens).

i've also got a newish oem hood coming to replace the ravaged one that's currently attached to the miata. happy days :)
